Brixtol Textiles Textile Art Scholarship 2024
In 2022, Brixtol Textiles established a biennial scholarship supporting textile-based artistic work developed from deadstock fabrics within our production.
Every second year, a selected artist is invited to create a unique installation using leftover materials from Brixtol Textiles collections. The resulting work is then exhibited in Stockholm.
The 2024 scholarship recipient is artist Mateas Pares, presenting the installation Heads at SKF/KonstnΓ€rshuset in central Stockholm.
The work consists of 18 sculptural forms developed using Brixtol Textiles fabrics combined with wax. Through folding, resistance, and material tension, the installation explores repetition, shared emotional complexity, and the relationship between structure and distortion.
According to Mateas Pares, the sculptures reflect a collective psychological state shaped by integrity, compromise, and economic survival. The facial features appear partially dissolved due to the interaction between wax and fabric, creating forms that feel both fragile and resistant.
The Brixtol Textiles Textile Art Scholarship reflects our ongoing interest in material longevity, deadstock reuse, and interdisciplinary collaboration beyond the traditional framework of fashion.
